Sins of the Saints – Part 2

May 8, 2012 in Football

In part 1 of this blog, we looked at how things spiraled out of control in New Orleans, how the league had spent three years investigating the organization, and how quickly the league handed down it’s judgement to the front office staff, coaches, and players involved. But this scandal, something which the recently divided NFL and NFLPA would be able to at least SEEM unified concerning, has instead magnified the rift between the two organizations.

Player Safety

One of the biggest hot-button issues facing the NFL over the past decade has been concerns over player safety. Any examination of the changes in the rulebook over that span will easily confirm this. So when a story about a team giving financial bonuses to players for injuring opposing players came out, the NFL was quick to go on the attack. But, where was the Player’s Association during all of this? After all, they have been the group fighting for player rights all along. On March 2nd, the NFLPA announced:

Health and safety is a paramount issue to the NFLPA. The NFLPA was informed of this investigation by the NFL earlier today and will review the information contained in the league’s report.

Sins of the Saints – Part I

May 3, 2012 in Football

I have wanted to blog about the Saints scandal for some time now, but have been a bit reluctant to actually do so. First of all, I am painfully aware that, as a Panthers fan, I’m not exactly the most unbiased person to discuss the shameful downfall of a divisional rival. Also, I can’t help feeling that it will take a long time before we can truly appreciate the scope of the impact this scandal has had on the Saints organization. Finally, I wanted to wait until all punishments had been doled out by the commissioner and the NF L before assessing the situation.

Now that the players involved have been given their suspensions, I feel like we’ve probably seen all there is to see in the way of punishments. Waiting to take in the full scope of the scandal could take seasons, and would therefore be impractical. That leaves my own personal bias to conquer, which I will attempt to do now.

Revolutionary & Exclusive New Player Rankings

April 19, 2012 in Fantasy Baseball

As many of you know, in the past, The Finest in Fantasy.com has always featured player rankings that were often times difficult to understand and also relatively useless compared to many other rankings out there.  While they did provide an excellent indication for current player value based on past performance, the useful applications for that knowledge was limited at best.  Plus, based on the vast knowledge displayed on the forum from the various users, most people already had a good idea what each player’s current value is anyways.

So what’s that all mean?  It was time for change!

Consequently, I reworked the previous rankings into more practical and uniquely advantageous rankings.  If you have kept a close eye on the site recently, you’ll remember basketball rankings that weren’t perfect, but did prove to be a solid indicator of player value the rest of the fantasy season.  That said, it wasn’t perfect.  With a few edits and adjustments, a much more polished version of baseball player rankings emerged.

So without any further ado, here’s a snippet of the first of the two new player rankings to be featured exclusively on this site the rest of the season.

Fantasy Basketball Review: More Stat Freaks

March 28, 2012 in Fantasy Basketball

It’s been two weeks since the annual league-wide Etch-A-Sketch shaking that is the trade deadline, and we have had a glimpse at how players are performing on their new rosters (or on old rosters with new teammates). Nearly two months ago, I did my last stat freaks blog, in which I tried to identify players who were available in the majority of leagues, but who could seriously benefit your fantasy team in a particular statistical category. In this version of the stat freaks, I’m looking strictly at stats since the trade deadline. It’s a relatively small data set to work with, but it still reveals some great options for teams heading into the fantasy playoffs.
